I started this painting with drawings I was making from a model in Wellfleet. Once painting, I was experimenting with color and form, all the while needing to express an idea, a belief, a feeling of contemplation and Source. She is seated in water in the painting; meditating on the nature of things. I began to work with the forces of fire and water, making the background suggestive of heat. I felt the fire, water and transformation of flesh were suggestive of “change and becoming”, thus using the Tibetan Dharma Wheel as a symbol.
