Self-Portrait Agony

Self-Portrait Agony

  • 2009 | 18” X 24” | oil on canvas

I made this painting in 2009.  I was experimenting with oil sticks.  I like their heavy viscous application and also the watery, ethereal feeling that can come from combining them with a turpentine wash.  The paint quality aptly conveyed how I was feeling at that time.  So often, I paint from a place of pain.  So much can be revealed when the heart is broken.  I know that connecting is my salvation and I can only connect from a place of truth.  It might be difficult to look at this self-portrait, but I am baring my soul while trying to heal.  This is truly a glimpse of what life has imprinted upon my soul and is an early contribution to my series on Spirits.
