I painted this a few years ago. It’s odd when painting a self-portrait; how many different ways one can view oneself. This is fairly straight forward. It was done alla prima. My hair has always been a defining part of my persona. When I made gardens, they were wild and unruly. I used to say I gardened like my hair. Although I don’t believe my painting is wild and unruly, I suppose it covers the gamut, from the intensity of “The Observer” to the subtlety of “Sea Spirit”; all contained within this self.
