This encaustic piece, “Poseidon”, was made in numerous layers. There was an image painted and built up on the board and then layered with seaweed, onion skins, branches, shells, sand, etc. Afterwards, I poured a thick layer of wax over everything. When cool, a mysterious figure began to emerge from beneath the wax/waves. As I layered several layers of colored wax, I added more seaweed and glass, and built up the wax with modified accretion. I finished the piece with a metallic pigment to give the feeling of seafoam.
