"Fortitude" is a further exploration of the inner strength of our bodies, and the life force inherent therein. The palette knife gives this piece the texture and layers that draw the eye inward. I used heavy impasto oil paint and carved the ribs out of it, giving this painting a truly sculptural and archaeological quality.
