“Between the Worlds” has a mysterious feeling, flesh devoid of the color of life, face decaying like a moment encapsulated as time stands still. There is something arresting about a hooded figure; both this painting and “Doge” use a cloaked image, a metaphor for the mysterious or unknown. Is this a man or woman? More importantly, does it matter?
