I made this painting in 2010 in Wellfleet after awakening around 4:00AM and watching Venus in the early morning sky. There was an astronomical anomaly at that time; Venus looked extremely large relative to the moon. The moon was but a sliver, which magnified the energetic life in the sky that morning. I reached heavenward embracing the stars, moon and Venus. Once painting I wanted my body to emanate that eerie sense of night my flesh had taken on before dawn; there was a bluish cast which I magnified in this piece. I took out some cards I have on the constellations for guidance in defining Taurus, the Pleiades and a few identifiable stars. Afterwards I continued to add numerous points of light to the canvas to give the viewer a glimpse of what I had experienced that memorable morning.
