This painting began as a depiction of a Butoh dancer. As it progressed it became a self-portrait of me dancing to the powers that be, arms outstretched, protective amulet around my neck; an expression of both ecstasy and pain. I see ecstasy and infiltration of Spirit on my face; yet ecstasy is but a breath away from all-consuming pain. When my grief was overwhelming there was, surprisingly, comfort in the painfulness; it was the truthfulness of my life at that moment. When I completely dissolved into that space of despair it felt as if my healing were coming from the consolation of spirit and consequently a feeling of spiritual ecstasy. This painting depicts the beauty that resides just this side of the horror. And from this scream arises profound healing and strength.

Feeling Ecstasy Beyond,
All Forever One”
