My earlier textural figurative paintings were often made using gradations of black and white. I wanted this painting to use color as light, the paint was built up at points which allowed her face to be viewed as a cohesion of fractals of light. This contributed to her otherworldly quality, and with the disbursement of that light she would lose all form and become energy of the cosmos once again.
