I have chosen to paint a series of Spirits because I believe that there is much in life that we do not ordinarily see. When one’s heart is shattered it’s as though a door is opened that surrenders one’s soul to the sequences of time and space we could not otherwise sense in our physical world. By following sounds and feelings through our intuition, we have the opportunity to be led into realms we would not otherwise know. We have come to call these guides, Spirits. Although I do not paint landscapes or seascapes, living in Wellfleet I thought I might use a background of the sea in a painting. I painted a coastline of sand and a cliff. But once it was dry I couldn’t resist painting a face over it; and thus developed “Sea Spirit”.
