I love the jewel-like quality of this encaustic and mixed media piece.  The layering of the pigmented wax allows the light to reflect upon different shades of blue, some many layers beneath the surface.  The foam of the waves is denoted using metallic pigments upon the surface of the wax.  This piece feels Japanese to me, reminiscent of lacquerware.
