I paint faces because they describe our journey in life; the joys, the difficulties, our reactions to our world are all inscribed therein. After painting and reworking the portrait Jerome I over the course of a couple of days, I felt the need to enter my studio that night to express what had imprinted upon my mind without the model present. This painting was made very quickly from what I felt was speaking to me from within. I had focused on Jerome for days and needed this outlet to express that inner force, unresponsive to the colors of flesh and light. This is my most honest representation of Jerome as his presence imprinted upon mine. It came from within, no visual references, just that ethereal residue that percolates as a reflection of focus; it’s the noise of silence.
