This painting was inspired by a drawing entitled Self-Portrait Drawing. I made it in 2009 when I was experimenting with oil sticks. There is a very raw and intense way of drawing with oil stick that I love. I used a wash to move the oil and get a softer feeling in areas of the portrait. As with the other oil stick paintings of mine, this was created during a time that I was exploring a way to touch Spirit in my portraits.
