“Encaustic Tribal” is an androgynous depiction of an African tribal person whose daily life centers around living within, and in reverence of, Nature. I have used encaustic and mixed media to convey this image because I like the texture I can get from building up the layers of wax to be reminiscent of the layers of pigment and soil used by these people to decorate their bodies and faces. In fact, I have used powdered earth pigments to decorate this image in much the same way they would have been used by the tribe. Read my blog entry for September 3, 2012. It features photos of the progression of this piece.
